Heavy Rainfall Alerts Issued Across South India as Early Monsoon Threatens Holiday Plans

The India Meteorological Department has issued heavy rainfall warnings across South and Eastern India as the Southwest Monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala around May 26. Travellers to Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Kerala backwaters are advised to stay alert, carry umbrellas, and monitor weather updates due to possible disruptions in summer travel plans.

South India’s monsoon season is setting in with intensified weather activity, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warnings for several southern and eastern tourist destinations. The advisory signals heightened weather disruptions at a time when travel activity typically peaks during the summer vacation period.

Travellers heading to popular destinations such as the scenic beaches of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and houseboat experiences in the backwaters of Kerala are being urged to remain alert and exercise caution. The IMD has advised that individuals should keep umbrellas, alternative travel arrangements, and real-time weather alerts readily available, as rapidly changing conditions may affect travel schedules and outdoor plans.

In a significant development, the IMD has indicated that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to arrive in Kerala around May 26, earlier than the usual expectation among travellers. The early onset of monsoon conditions is expected to bring widespread rainfall activity, potentially impacting tourism, transportation, and regional mobility across affected areas.

Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation closely, with advisories emphasizing preparedness as the region transitions into an active monsoon phase sooner than anticipated. The developing conditions underscore the need for heightened awareness among residents and visitors across South and Eastern India.
